HOLIDAY MOCKTAILS FOR KIDS #1 (GUAVA BERRY)

Holiday_mocktail_1_wondermint.jpg

The holidays are the perfect time to make a delicious and pretty drink such as a Guava Berry Mocktail. Mocktails are like the colorful cocktails that adults drink, but with no alcohol (of course!). And, by the way, the cute song, Pretty Girl In The Ring, in my HOW-TO VIDEO is by my friend, Alina Celeste.  Find the information for her Kids’ CD on iTunes at the end of this post. Enjoy!

STEP ONE

Use a lemon, orange or lime slice to “wet” the rim of your glass.

STEP TWO

Dip the glass rim into a plate of sugar. We like using colorful sanding sugars that we get from Sur La Table or our local chef’s store, Surfas.

STEP THREE

Muddle some berries. That means smash some berries at the bottom of your glass. This releases the flavors from the berries.

STEP FOUR

Fill the glass with half guava juice and half soda water. Our favorite kind is by Ceres Juices because it has no high fructose corn syrup and no sugar, which is hard to find in guava juice. My mom usually buys it for me at Whole Foods orCost Plus World Market. We have also seen it at some Bed, Bath & Beyonds. If you do not have soda water on hand, the sparkling apple or sparkling cranberry juice from Trader Joe’s also makes for a great mix.

If you want you can garnish with mint or a strawberry or raspberries stuck onto a toothpick!

We have more mocktails coming for the holidays. In the meantime, I would love to hear what your favorite mocktails are. Here’s one of my favorite dairy-free shake recipes: DAIRY-FREE SLACKER SHAKE.
