HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE-DIPPED SUGAR COOKIES THAT LOOK LIKE TEA BAGS
Dunkable Tea Bag Cookies. What better cookies to serve with tea? I made these with my mom to prepare for a tea with my friend, Cari. Challenge level? This project is definitely more challenging than most of our recipes. You’ll want some help and it takes some patience.
We used Trader Joe’s Sugar Cookie Workshop Mix. Make the cookie dough batter according to the box directions. If you do not have a Trader Joe’s you can use any sugar cookie dough recipe.
Roll out the dough as suggested on the box directions. Make sure to put flour down on the surface and on your rolling pin so that dough does not stick. (I’m using my great grandmother’s rolling pin!)
Cut the dough into tea bag shapes. I used a real tea bag and just traced it.
Place cookies on a baking sheet and poke the top of each cookie with a chopstick or a thin straw to make a hole at the top. Do not make the hole too close to the edge of the dough. Cook as directed.
Once the cookies have cooled, dip them in melted chocolate. We used about a cup of chocolate chips that we melted in the microwave (usually takes about 1 minute, but depends on your microwave). If the chocolate seems too thick my mom mixes in a teaspoon of vegetable oil. Dip each cookie’s bottom half into the melted chocolate then lay the cookie on wax paper.
Once chocolate is cool and dry to touch, you can tie on your tea bag string and tags. We made our own by removing the tags from other tea bags, turning them inside out and stamping them with two cute tea kettle stamps that we got at Michaels Art Store and Paper Source. You can also use the tags on your real tea bags, but sometimes those strings don’t give you enough room to tie them around your cookies.
