I’ve known my friend Pearl since I was a baby. We met when we were 18 months old! Even though we’ve never gone to the same school and we have really different styles & personalities, she is one of my best friends. I like her because she is very creative, smart, silly and friendly. My fashion style is a little bit like Audrey Hepburn (we share the same birthday, too): simple, classic, vintage. I don’t like busy patterns on my clothes and I love pretty ballet slippers, simple boots, or when I am dressed more casual I like Camper shoes’ slip ons or TOM’s shoes because they are super easy to put on and super comfortable, but still chic. Did you know that if you buy a pair of TOM’s shoes, they will give one to a child in need who can’t afford shoes? Cool, huh? Pearl’s style is a little more hip, and a little more tom-boyish. I see her wear interesting shorts and shirts a lot and she wears chunky Doc Marten boots, too!
For this post, we decided to show kids how to take their mom’s (or dad’s) reusable shopping bags and use them as cool purses. We thought of the idea because when my mom shops at Free People, they always give her whatever she bought in a colorful floral bag made of cotton fabric instead of plastic or paper which you might just throw away. And, Pearl’s mom, Shannon, shops at a place called Matrushka. They also put whatever you buy in a shopping bag made of fabric. See the photos below to see how we styled the Matrushka bags with some of our favorite clothes.

I love how bright and colorful these outfits came out. Pearl’s mom, Shannon Bindler, is a style editor & a shoeologist and she did a great job helping us accessorize the clothes we wanted to wear. As you can see, the Free People bag makes a great kid purse. It’s super light and comfortable and I have taken it hiking, shopping, and out to dinner. It goes perfectly with the D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself) necklace I made (I’ll teach YOU how to make one in the future). Pearl is using my mom’s reusable Baggu Bag, which she got when she attended BlogShop this summer. Baggu comes in a really small wallet-size pouch that you can keep in another bag. When you are using the Baggu bag, the pouch can work as a little matching wallet. The Baggu bag that Pearl is wearing is great to carry my lunches to school or to bring books back to the library. And, if I spill anything on it, it is very easy to wipe clean in a second.
I hope you enjoyed our first style post. I would love to hear what your favorite fashion pieces are. Do you have a reusable bag that you have styled an outfit with? If so, let us know in the comment section below. And, please check out our Wondermint facebook page for behind-the-scenes photos of Pearl & I (and our dogs!). xo, Gray
