Spring has begun, and these lollipops are a celebration of the colorful season. Simple, pretty, and super fun, Jollypops are the perfect treats to make with friends! I first made these delicious pops with my pals Parker, Darcey, and Lou, who have all been in past Wondermint episodes. We made super colorful lollipops, snuck a few Jolly Ranchers while we worked away on creating our beautiful pop, and took some of the pictures you will see below. Parker & I have also made shamrocks made with melted Jolly Ranchers for St. Patrick’s Day (see photos at bottom of post). They were a big hit in our classroom! You can find out how to make your own Jollypops below. Have fun!
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2: Place your Jolly Ranchers in a Ziploc bag and wrap the bag in an old towel. Then, crush them up using a hammer or a kitchen device similar to a hammer.
Step 3: Put your crushed Jolly Ranchers onto plates, one plate per color. Then, take your crushed Jolly Ranchers bits and place them onto a sheet of foil on top of a cookie sheet. Make sure your layer is thick enough that you cannot see the foil underneath the Jolly Ranchers bits. Once you are finished with your first design, make some more! Do not fill up all the space on the foil, however, because you will need enough room to place a stick in between each pop and when the candy melts, it spreads.
Tips: I’d recommend making your pops with more than one color of Jolly Ranchers. Multi-colored lollipops look super cool and that’s how you get the stained-glass effect! If you’re placing a flower or another candy in your pop, do that after it comes out of the oven and before it hardens.
Step 4: Place the cookie sheet into your preheated oven. Bake approximately 7-10 minutes. Once the Jolly Ranchers are completely melted (no hard pieces left), take the cookie sheet out.
Step 5: As soon as your pops come out of the oven, twirl a lollipop stick into each design. Make sure that a little less than a quarter of your stick is completely covered in the melted candy. (See the picture above if you need an example.) DO NOT pick up the lollipops!
Step 6: Once your pops have completely hardened, take them off of the foil and enjoy!
By the way, if you don’t have any lollipop or popsicle sticks, you can still make beautiful treats. To make the shamrocks below, Parker & I put our crushed Jolly Ranchers into a silicone muffin pan with shamrock shapes.
